When the medium flows upwards through the vertical measuring tube at a sufficient flow rate, the float rises until an equilibrium is established between the lifting force of the medium and the weight of the float. Since the average flow rate is proportional to the flow per unit time, the resulting equilibrium state corresponds to the instantaneous volume flow. Rotameters with magnetic floats can be equipped with limit contacts.
