Sick is a globally recognized manufacturer of sensors, offering a wide range of products for various applications. Among their most important offerings are absolute and incremental encoders.
Sick produces several series of incremental rotary encoders, which measure the rotational value of a shaft. These encoders are typically mounted using a coupling to a motor shaft to track rotation.
The operation of incremental encoders relies on counting pulses relative to a zero point. The number of pulses per revolution (PPR) is the resolution value, which determines the encoder’s accuracy. If the sensor is turned off, all position data is lost, meaning every operation starts from zero.
Sick offers a variety of incremental encoder series, including:
- DBS50 Core: Features a universal mechanical connection with options for face or servo flanges and solid or hollow shafts. The resolution ranges from 10 to 2500 PPR.
- DBS36 Core: Similar to the DBS50, but with a more compact 37mm housing and operating temperatures from -20 to 85°C. Resolution is also 10 to 2500 PPR.
- DKS40: Known for its high-performance design, compact housing, and low-cost structure, with resolutions from 1 to 2048 PPR. Note that these models are soon to be phased out.
- DBS60 Core: A versatile encoder with a servo flange or end flange and hollow or through hollow shafts. The resolution can reach up to 2048 PPR.
- DFS60 Inox: A reliable programmable encoder with extremely high resolution (up to 65,536 PPR) and flexible settings for output voltage and pulse positioning.
- DGS34 and DGS35: Designed for harsh environments with a large 30mm hollow shaft, these encoders are built for tough conditions and feature special electrical interfaces.
