The Ultrasonic Level Sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs is engineered for reliable level measurement in hazardous environments, where explosion protection is critical. This sensor employs ultrasonic technology to perform non-contact measurements, minimizing maintenance needs and ensuring long-term operational stability. It is particularly suited for applications in chemical processing, wastewater treatment, and bulk material monitoring.

Equipped with a four-line display, the sensor allows for quick and straightforward commissioning through menu-guided onsite operation. Users can easily visualize envelope curves for diagnostics and configure the sensor’s linearization function, which supports up to 32 points for converting measured values into various units of length, volume, or flow rate. Additionally, the integrated temperature sensor automatically adjusts for temperature-dependent sound velocity variations, enhancing measurement accuracy.

For improved accessibility, an optional remote display and operation feature allows users to monitor and control the sensor from distances of up to 20 meters, further increasing its adaptability in diverse industrial settings.

Measuring principle The sensor of the device transmits ultrasonic pulses in the direction of the product surface. There, the ultrasonic pulses are reflected back and received by the sensor. The device measures the time between pulse transmission and reception. The instrument uses the time (and the velocity of sound) to calculate the distance between the sensor membrane and the product surface. As the device knows the empty distance from a user entry, the device calculate the level.
